
Pre & After Care
• Immediately after dermal filler injections the treatment area may be red, tender or swollen. The redness and tenderness should improve after 48 hours. Swelling is often worse on days 2-3 after injection, improved by day 5 and resolved by 2 weeks.
• For significant swelling contact your practitioner for advice. Swelling may be reduced by regular cold compress, anti-inflammatory medicines such as Ibuprofen (after 24 hours, if safe for you to take), antihistamines and sleeping with your head propped up on 3 pillows to help drainage of fluid overnight.
• Bruising is common following treatment; this will resolve naturally but may take up to 2 weeks to settle.
• Regular application of Arnica cream may be helpful for bruising.
• Tenderness is normal when the injected area is touched afterwards but active at rest is not normal. If you experience pain, you must contact your practitioner as soon as possible pain
• Avoid any makeup for 24 hours after treatment as this will reduce the risk of infection.
• You may require a top up appointment if there is some mild unevenness or discrepancies noticed once the initial swelling has resolved. T op ups should not done until 2 weeks, this is when all post-injection swelling would have resolved.
• Drink plenty of water after treatment to keep well hydrated.
• Avoid alcohol, caffeine, hot drinks and spicy food for 24 hours.
• Avoid medications such as aspirin or Ibuprofen for 24 hours as they are blood thinning agents and may worsen bruising (if these medications have been by your GP you must check with your GP before stopping them) advised
• Avoid supplements such as multivitamins, fish oils, glucosamine and Vitamin B or Vitamin E, which are blood thinning agents and may exacerbate bruising for 24 these supplements have been advised by your GP please check with hours (if your GP before stopping them)
• Avoid any excess sun exposure, extremes of hot/cold, saunas, swimming or strenuous exercise until the redness and swelling has settled.
• A rare complication of dermal fillers is vascular occlusion in which a blood vessel is accidentally blocked with filler. Signs and symptoms include throbbing and aching pain which can be severe, paleness, a cold feeling to the tissue and purple streaky mottling tissue changes. If you notice any of these symptoms you must contact your practitioner as soon as possible, they will guide you through how to perform a capillary refill test and then assess you fully and advise further action if required.
• You must seek medical attention and contact your practitioner if you experience any signs or symptoms of infection after treatment. Infection can present as hot, red shiny skin, there may be pus formation and you may have a fever or feel generally unwell.
• You must seek emergency medical attention if you experience any severe allergy symptoms after treatment. Symptoms may include rash, facial swelling and breathing difficulties.
• You must contact your practitioner as an emergency if you notice any visual disturbance or loss of vision after the filler injections.
• Contact your practitioner as soon as possible if you notice any other unwanted side effects.
• Results can be assessed at 2 weeks, by when any residual swelling will have settled.
• Avoid applying makeup to the treated area for 24 hours, this can help reduce the risk of infection.
• Avoid any extremes of temperature for the next 24 hours, for example have a tepid shower or bath rather than hot.
• Avoid exercising or strenuous activity for the first 24 hours post-treatment.
• Do not go swimming or use saunas or steam rooms for at least 24 hours post-treatment.
• No excessive alcohol on the day of the treatment.
• Do not lie flat or face down for at least 4 hours after treatment. Remain upright for 4 hours after treatment, this can help to reduce product migration.
• Avoid touching or rubbing the treated after for at least 24 hours after treatment,doing so may affect treatment results.
• Avoid any further cosmetic procedures to the treated area for 2 weeks following treatment, including permanent makeup and skin treatments.
• You must seek medical attention and contact your practitioner if you experience any signs or symptoms of infection after treatment. Infection can present as hot, red shiny skin, there may be pus formation and you may have a fever or feel
generally unwell.
• You must seek emergency medical attention if you experience any severe allergy symptoms after treatment. Symptoms may include rash, facial swelling and breathing difficulties.
• Contact your practitioner as soon as possible if you notice any other unwanted side effects.
• Allow 2 weeks before assessing results of treatment. If after 2 weeks there is any persistent unevenness or the product as not fully taken contact your practitioner for review.
● Avoid Touching the Treated Area
After the skin booster treatment, avoid touching the treated area for at least six hours. Touching the area can introduce bacteria and irritate the skin, which can interfere with the healing process.
● Apply Ice Packs
To reduce swelling and discomfort, apply ice packs to the treated area for up to 20 minutes at a time, several times a day. Wrap the ice pack in a thin towel or cloth to prevent direct contact with the skin.
● Avoid Strenuous Exercise
Avoid strenuous exercise and other activities that cause sweating for at least 24 hours after the treatment. Sweating can increase the risk of infection and interfere with the healing process.
● Use a Gentle Cleanser
Use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser to wash your face for the first few days after the treatment. Avoid using hot water and aggressive scrubbing, which can irritate the skin. nstead, use lukewarm water and gently pat your skin dry with a soft towel.
● Moisturise Regularly
Moisturising your skin is essential after a skin booster treatment. It helps to keep your skin hydrated and promotes healing. Apply a high-quality, fragrance-free moisturiser to your face at least twice a day, or as recommended by your aesthetician.
● Avoid Makeup for the First Day
After the skin booster treatment, avoid using makeup for at least the first day. Makeup can clog your pores and interfere with the healing process. If you must use makeup, choose a non-comedogenic product that is safe for sensitive skin.
● Avoid Alcohol and Smoking
Avoid drinking alcohol and smoking for at least 24 hours after the treatment. Alcohol and smoking can interfere with the healing process and increase the risk of infection.
● Follow Your Aesthetician's Instructions Your aesthetician will provide you with specific aftercare instructions based on your skin type and the specific skin booster treatment you received. Be sure to follow these instructions carefully to ensure the best possible results.
Immediate Aftercare (First 24-48 hours):
Avoid Touching the Treated Area: Refrain from touching, massaging, or applying pressure to the lips for at least 24 hours following your treatment to avoid infection and ensure the filler settles properly.
Swelling and Bruising: Mild swelling, bruising, and redness around the treatment area are normal and should subside within 1-2 days. If swelling is significant, you may apply a cold compress (wrapped in a cloth) to reduce swelling for 10-15 minutes every hour.
No Heat Exposure: Avoid exposing your lips to excessive heat, including hot tubs, saunas, and sun exposure, for 48 hours. This will help reduce the risk of swelling.
Avoid Lip Makeup: Do not apply lipstick, gloss, or any lip products for 24 hours to reduce the risk of infection.
Rest and Avoid Strenuous Activity: Avoid heavy exercise, hot showers, and activities that might cause excessive sweating for 24 hours post-treatment.
General Aftercare (First Week):
Hydration: Keep your lips hydrated with a gentle, fragrance-free lip balm. This will help minimise dryness and flaking.
Avoid Massaging Your Lips: Do not massage your lips or the treated area. If you are concerned about any irregularities in the shape, contact your practitioner rather than trying to fix it yourself.
No Smoking: Refrain from smoking for at least 48 hours after treatment as it may increase swelling and affect the healing process.
Stay Out of Direct Sunlight: If you need to go outdoors, use a high SPF lip balm to protect your lips from UV exposure.
Avoid Excessive Alcohol: Alcohol can increase the risk of bruising and swelling. Avoid alcohol consumption for at least 24 hours after treatment.
Possible Side Effects:
Swelling and Bruising: These are common side effects of lip filler treatments and should subside within a few days. Apply cold compresses to the area to help with swelling.
Tenderness: It is normal for your lips to feel tender or sensitive after the procedure. Any discomfort should gradually decrease within 24-48 hours.
Lumps or Bumps: Some minor lumps or bumps may appear, but these usually resolve on their own within a few days. If they persist, contact your practitioner.
When to Contact Your Practitioner:
Please contact your practitioner immediately if you experience any of the following:
Unusual or excessive swelling
Pain or tenderness that worsens after 48 hours
Fever or signs of infection (redness, heat, pus)
Persistent lumps or irregularities in the lip shape
Any other concerns regarding your treatment
Long-Term Care (1-2 Weeks Post-Treatment):
Avoid Invasive Facial Treatments: Refrain from having facials, laser treatments, or any other invasive treatments on your lips for at least two weeks after your procedure.
Follow-Up Appointment: If you have any concerns or would like to assess your results, please schedule a follow-up appointment with your practitioner in 2-4 weeks.
• Your skin may appear slightly red and swollen after treatment, these effects usually resolve within a few hours but may last up to 5 days. You may also experience some mild tenderness or tingling in the treatment area, these effects should resolve within 7 days. Contact your practitioner if you are concerned about the healing process.
• After HIFU treatment you may continue your normal daily activities.
• If you experience any discomfort after treatment, you can take a simple over the counter pain killer such as paracetamol.
• Drink plenty of water to keep hydrated after treatment.
• Avoid excess caffeine and alcohol for 48 hours after treatment.
• Avoid extreme temperatures of hot or cold for 48 hours, including hot baths, saunas or steam rooms.
• Avoid any excess sun exposure or sunbeds for 2 weeks after treatment, for the next 2 weeks use an SPF sunscreen 30 or greater.
• Avoid any strenuous exercise for 48 hours after treatment.
• Do not scratch, pick or rub the treated area. Avoid any skin exfoliation regimens for 7 days also.
• Use a regular moisturising cream on the treated area.
• Contact your practitioner as soon as possible if you notice any unwanted side effects.
• Your practitioner will inform you when your next treatment is due. If you are advised to attend a follow up appointment, please do make every effort to attend them. You should do this even if you believe that the recovery process is going well and you cannot see that there are any visible complications.

• After the procedure you may experience some temporary pain or discomfort, bruising and swelling. These effects should settle within the next 7 days. There may be some temporary skin changes at the insertion sites such as
puckering, dimpling and lumpiness. These effects should resolve over 1-2 weeks but occasionally may last longer. You may feel a pulling sensation up to 5 weeks, this again will naturally resolve.
• Contact your practitioner at any stage if you are concerned about the healing process.
• A cold compress can be applied to help with swelling, you can also sleep propped up on 3 pillows to help drainage of fluid overnight.
• Sleep on your back to avoid pressure on the treated area overnight.
• Arnica cream can help with bruising resolution.
• Follow any wound care advice given to you by your practitioner for the thread entry port sites.
• Use a mild cleanser with tepid water to clean your face for 7 days after the treatment and gently dry the treated area. Keep your hands clean when touching your face.
• Do not rub or massage the face for 2 weeks after treatment.
• Do not open your mouth wide and avoid dental treatments for 2 weeks if possible.
• If you experience any pain after the treatment, you can take a simple over the counter pain killer such as paracetamol.
• Minimise facial movements for the first 24 hours.
• Avoid any perfumes, fake tan or other harsh chemicals for 72 hours after treatment.
• Avoid any makeup for 48 hours after treatment as this can increase the risk of infection.
• Avoid rubbing or picking the treated area/ thread entry port sites.
• Avoid any skin exfoliation for 72 hours following treatment.
• You can use a gentle moisturising cream over the treated area.
• Avoid any products that contain alpha hydroxy acids, retinol, and glycolic acid for at least 7 days after treatment.
• Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, sunbeds and exposure to heat for 72 hours after treatment. These can cause sweating which can irritate the skin and slow down your ability to heal quickly.
• Avoid swimming for 7 days after treatment.
• Avoid any excess alcohol or caffeine for 48 hours after treatment.
• Wear SPF 30 or greater sunscreen for at least 2 weeks following treatment.
• Avoid any further cosmetic treatments such as Botox or dermal filler until your thread lift practitioner has given approval for these to go ahead.
• Avoid any heat producing cosmetic treatments such as HIFU, laser and IPL for 12 weeks after treatment. If you are looking to have an aesthetic procedure, ask your thread lift practitioner if it is safe to do so.
• Avoid facials or facial massages for 2 weeks after treatment.
• Avoid any hair removal treatments such as waxing for 2 weeks after treatment.
• If you experience thread protrusion then do not pull at the thread, contact your practitioner for a review.
• You must seek medical attention and contact your practitioner if you experience any signs or symptoms of infection after treatment. Infection can present as hot, red shiny skin, there may be pus formation and you may have a fever or feel generally unwell.
• You must contact your practitioner as soon as possible if you notice any other unwanted side effects.

These effects will resolve naturally and should be much improved after 48 hours but may take longer to settle. • Cold compress can be helpful to aid resolution of swelling, Arnica cream can be helpful for bruising resolution.
• If you experience any mild discomfort you can take some simple over the counter pain killers such as paracetamol.

for at least 48 hours following the treatment.
Monitor for Side Effects: Some people may experience minor side effects, such as redness, swelling,
or tenderness at the injection site. These should subside within a few days. If you experience severe
pain, infection, or any other concerning symptoms, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
